Mike crosses Kijun. Entry 2 fires. You check the confirmation stack.
Then you look at the Mike line.
Is it green? Or just blue?
Green = Cape ON. Momentum armor engaged.
Blue = No Cape. Price tapping, no thrust.
π¦Έ The Cape (Z3 Momentum Armor)
Z3 measures 3-bar momentum normalized by volatility.
Formula:
Z3 = (b0 + b1 + b2) / (sigma Γ sqrt(3))
Where:
b0, b1, b2= last 3 bars' returns (in basis points from log returns)sigma= robust volatility (MAD sigma over last 9 bars)sqrt(3)= normalizing factor for 3-bar sum
What it tells you:
- Z3 β₯ +1.2 β Bullish engine ON (Mike line turns green)
- Z3 β€ -1.2 β Bearish engine ON (Mike line turns red)
- Between -1.2 and +1.2 β Engine OFF (Mike line stays blue)
The Cape = momentum armor.
When it's ON, Mike has thrust. Not just distance.
π¨ Visual Signal (Colored Mike Line)
On the Terminal, the Mike line changes color:
Green Mike Line:
- Z3 β₯ +1.2
- Bullish momentum ON
- Engine firing upward
- Cape ON for calls
Red Mike Line:
- Z3 β€ -1.2
- Bearish momentum ON
- Engine firing downward
- Cape ON for puts
Blue Mike Line:
- Between -1.2 and +1.2
- No momentum
- Engine OFF
- No Cape
Visual rule:
Look at Mike line color before entering:
Green = momentum armor ON (calls). Red = momentum armor ON (puts). Blue = no armor (be cautious).
π¬ How Z3 is Calculated
Step-by-step:
1. Calculate Bar-to-Bar Returns (Basis Points):
bps[i] = 10000 Γ ln(Mike[i] / Mike[i-1])
This converts Mike movement into log returns.
Example:
- Mike at previous bar = 1000F
- Mike at current bar = 1020F
- bps = 10000 Γ ln(1020/1000) = 198 bps
2. Calculate Robust Sigma (MAD):
Over last 9 bars:
sigma = 1.4826 Γ median(|bps - median(bps)|)
This is robust volatility (less affected by outliers than standard deviation).
3. Sum Last 3 Returns:
sum3 = b0 + b1 + b2
This is the 3-bar momentum.
4. Normalize by Sigma:
Z3 = sum3 / (sigma Γ sqrt(3))
This converts momentum into sigma-space (how rare the move is).
Result:
- Z3 = +2.0 β 3-bar momentum is 2Ο above average (rare, strong)
- Z3 = +0.8 β 3-bar momentum is 0.8Ο above average (normal)
- Z3 = -1.5 β 3-bar momentum is 1.5Ο below average (rare, weak)
Z3 β₯ Β±1.2 = momentum strong enough to matter.
πͺ Z3 at Entry 2 (Queen's Castle)
Entry 2 = storming the Queen's castle (Kijun cross).
70% fake-out rate on evil Queens.
Before adding size, check the Cape:
Entry 2 WITH Cape:
Setup:
- Mike crosses Kijun at +125F (Entry 2 fires)
- Check Z3: +1.4 (Cape ON)
- Mike line turns green π’
Translation: Kijun cross with momentum thrust. Not just price tapping.
Add 2 contracts. Cape engaged.
Entry 2 WITHOUT Cape:
Setup:
- Mike crosses Kijun at +125F (Entry 2 fires)
- Check Z3: +0.7 (below threshold)
- Mike line stays blue π΅
Translation: Kijun cross without momentum. Weak.
Pass. No Cape = no armor.
The Cape at Entry 2 = confirmation layer:
- Permission flipped (Queen approved) β
- Pawn holds (Tenkan confirms) β
- Knights present (RVOL β₯ 1.2) β
- Cape ON (Z3 β₯ Β±1.2) β
All four = strongest Entry 2.
π° Z3 at Entry 3 (Fortress Walls)
Entry 3 = breaking IB High/Low (the fortress walls).
Most defended level. 70%+ fake-out rate.
Need THREE things:
- Three Knights (RVOL β₯ 1.2 clustered)
- Cape ON (Z3 β₯ Β±1.2)
- Hold confirmed (Mike stays beyond wall for 2+ bars)
Entry 3 WITH Cape:
Setup:
- Mike breaks IB High at +516F
- Three Knights present (RVOL 1.4, 1.5, 1.3)
- Check Z3: +1.6 (Cape ON)
- Mike line green π’
Translation: IB break with volume + momentum. Real extension.
Add 1-2 contracts. All confirmations present.
Entry 3 WITHOUT Cape:
Setup:
- Mike breaks IB High at +516F
- Three Knights present (RVOL 1.4, 1.5, 1.3)
- Check Z3: +0.9 (below threshold)
- Mike line blue π΅
Translation: IB break with volume, but no momentum thrust. Likely fake-out.
Pass. No Cape = wall defended.
At Entry 3, the Cape is CRITICAL:
Knights show volume. Cape shows momentum.
Both required. One without the other = trap.
π§Ώ Z3 at Reclaim (The Unlock)
This is where Z3 is MOST important.
The Setup:
Entry 1 fired in bad location:
- Mike at +519F (in LOFT zone for calls)
- Entry 1 CALL fires but β³ Blocked
- Stored level: +519F
- Mike drops to MAE (Maximum Adverse Excursion) at +480F
MAE = worst drawdown after block.
Mike hit bottom. Maximum pain.
The Reclaim (π§Ώ):
Later:
- Mike crosses back above +519F (blocked level)
- Check Z3: +1.3 (Cape ON)
- Mike line turns green π’
- π§Ώ Reclaim fires
Translation: Structure reclaimed WITH momentum. Not just price tapping.
Enter 1 contract. Reclaim unlocked.
Failed Reclaim (No Cape):
Later:
- Mike crosses back above +519F
- Check Z3: +0.8 (below threshold)
- Mike line stays blue π΅
- No π§Ώ (reclaim doesn't fire)
Translation: Price crossed, but no momentum. Likely rejection incoming.
Don't enter. Without Cape, reclaim is weak.
The rule:
Reclaim ONLY fires if Z3 β₯ Β±1.2 at the cross.
Without momentum armor, structure reclaim means nothing.
π Z3 Key (Ignition After MAE)
After MAE, watch for Z3 Key (π):
What is Z3 Key?
The first time Z3 crosses into ignition zone AFTER MAE:
- For calls: Z3 crosses above +1.5
- For puts: Z3 crosses below -1.5
Translation: Engine restarting after stalling.
Example:
Entry 1 blocked at +519F:
- Mike drops to MAE at +480F (maximum pain)
- Z3 negative during drop
Later:
- Mike at +490F
- Z3 crosses above +1.5 (ignition)
- π Z3 Key fires
Translation: Momentum returning. Engine restarting.
This tells you: Recovery beginning. Watch for Reclaim next.
Z3 Key = "the engine is coming back online."
Not an entry signal. A warning signal.
Get ready. Reclaim might fire soon.
βοΈ Horse Reinforcement (Volume in Pain Zone)
When Entry 1 blocked, track the corridor:
Corridor = between blocked level and MAE.
- For calls: MAE (low) to blocked level (high)
- For puts: blocked level (low) to MAE (high)
Horse Reinforcement (βοΈ) fires if:
RVOL β₯ 1.3 appears in the corridor.
Translation: Volume spiked during the pain zone. Cavalry arrived during retreat.
Example:
Entry 1 blocked at +519F:
- Mike drops to MAE at +480F
- In the corridor (+480F to +519F):
- Bar at +495F: RVOL = 1.5 (Knight)
- Bar at +505F: RVOL = 1.4 (Knight)
- βοΈ Horse Reinforcement fires
Translation: Volume supported the recovery. Not just noise.
Horse Reinforcement + Z3 Key + Reclaim = strongest unlock.
All three = conviction returning.
π― The Confirmation Stack (With Cape)
Complete Entry 2 stack:
Entry 2 (Kijun Cross)
ββ Layer 1: Queen (Kijun cross) β
ββ Layer 2: Pawn (Tenkan holds) β
ββ Layer 3: Knight (RVOL β₯ 1.2) β
ββ Layer 4: Green/Red Bishop (BBW expansion) β
ββ Layer 5: Cape (Z3 β₯ Β±1.2) β
ββ All five = strongest Entry 2
Complete Entry 3 stack:
Entry 3 (IB Break)
ββ Layer 1: Wall breaks (IB High/Low) β
ββ Layer 2: Three Knights (RVOL β₯ 1.2) β
ββ Layer 3: Green/Red Bishop (BBW expansion) β
ββ Layer 4: Cape (Z3 β₯ Β±1.2) β
ββ All four = strongest Entry 3
Complete Reclaim stack:
Reclaim (π§Ώ)
ββ Entry 1 blocked (β³) β
ββ MAE hit (maximum pain) β
ββ Mike crosses blocked level β
ββ Cape ON (Z3 β₯ Β±1.2) β
ββ Optional: Z3 Key (π) before reclaim
ββ Optional: Horse Reinforcement (βοΈ) in corridor
ββ Reclaim fires
The Cape appears in all three.
Not optional. Required for strongest entries.
π₯ Real Example: COIN Feb 6 Reclaim
Let's walk through a blocked Entry 1 β Reclaim:
10:15 AM - Entry 1 Blocked:
- Mike at +519F (in LOFT zone)
- Entry 1 CALL fires but β³ Blocked
- Stored level: +519F
10:20-11:15 AM - Drawdown to MAE:
- Mike drops to +480F (MAE = maximum pain)
- Z3 negative during drop
11:20 AM - Z3 Key:
- Mike at +495F
- Z3 crosses above +1.5
- π Z3 Key fires (engine restarting)
11:25 AM - Horse Reinforcement:
- Mike at +505F (in corridor)
- RVOL = 1.5
- βοΈ Horse Reinforcement fires (cavalry in pain zone)
11:30 AM - Reclaim:
- Mike crosses above +519F (blocked level)
- Z3 = +1.4 (Cape ON)
- Mike line turns green π’
- π§Ώ Reclaim fires
Enter 1 contract. All confirmations present.
Result:
- Mike climbs +519F β +616F
- T1 hit at +583F
- +64F move from Reclaim
Without Z3 at Reclaim: Wouldn't have entered. No momentum confirmation.
With Z3: Unlocked the blocked entry. Rode to T1.
π§ Z3 vs Purple Bishop (Different Jobs)
Both use volatility normalization. Different purposes:
Purple Bishop (STD Expansion):
- Measures raw volatility (stress gauge)
- Fires when STD doubles (2x expansion)
- Job: Warning signal (climax, exit)
Cape (Z3 Momentum):
- Measures 3-bar momentum normalized by STD
- Fires when Z3 β₯ Β±1.2 (momentum threshold)
- Job: Confirmation signal (thrust present)
Purple Bishop = "volatility going nuclear"
Cape = "momentum engine ON"
Related but different.
Purple Bishop warns you to exit. Cape confirms you to enter.
π When the Cape is Lying
Z3 can fire during range:
Scenario:
- Mike chopping +80F to +120F
- Repeated whipsaws
- Z3 crosses +1.2, then -1.2, then +1.2 again
- Mike line flashing green/red/green
Translation: Momentum from chop, not trend.
How to tell the difference:
Trend momentum:
- Cape ON after Entry 1/Entry 2/Entry 3
- Mike moving directionally
- Structure breaking
Range momentum:
- Cape flashing on/off
- Mike chopping
- No clear direction
The fix:
Only trust the Cape in context:
- With Entry signals (Entry 1/2/3)
- With structure (Rook, IB break)
- With Knights (volume)
Don't enter just because Mike line turned green.
π Green vs Red Mike Line (The Visual)
The Mike line color is your instant signal:
Green Mike Line (Z3 β₯ +1.2):
- Bullish momentum ON
- Engine firing upward
- Cape ON for calls
- Safe to hunt long
Red Mike Line (Z3 β€ -1.2):
- Bearish momentum ON
- Engine firing downward
- Cape ON for puts
- Safe to hunt short
Blue Mike Line (between -1.2 and +1.2):
- No momentum
- Engine OFF
- No Cape
- Be cautious, wait
One glance. Know if momentum is present.
π Why Robust Sigma (MAD)?
Z3 uses MAD (Median Absolute Deviation) instead of standard deviation.
Why?
Standard Deviation:
- Affected by outliers (one bad tick distorts)
- Can give false volatility reading
MAD (Robust Sigma):
- Uses median (not mean)
- Less affected by outliers
- More stable volatility estimate
Formula:
MAD = 1.4826 Γ median(|returns - median(returns)|)
Translation: Robust measure of spread. One bad tick doesn't ruin it.
This makes Z3 more reliable:
Bad tick doesn't trigger false Cape.
Momentum threshold stays consistent.
β Questions
"Can I enter if Cape is ON but no other signals?"
No.
Cape alone = momentum present.
But:
- Momentum without structure = noise
- Momentum without volume = weak
- Momentum without permission = wrong direction
Need:
- Entry signal (Entry 1/2/3 or Reclaim)
- Cape ON (Z3 β₯ Β±1.2)
- Other confirmations (Knights, Bishop, etc.)
Cape is Layer 5, not Layer 1.
"What if Mike line turns green mid-session?"
Just momentum starting.
Not an entry signal by itself.
Wait for:
- Entry 1 (General + Rook)
- Entry 2 (Kijun cross)
- Entry 3 (IB break)
- Reclaim (unlock after block)
Then check if Cape is ON.
"Why Z3 β₯ 1.2 and not 1.0?"
1.0 = normal threshold (1 standard deviation).
1.2 = elevated threshold (momentum strong enough to matter).
At 1.0, too many false positives (normal noise triggers).
At 1.2, filters out noise, keeps real momentum.
1.2 = sweet spot.
"Does Z3 work with STD (Purple Bishop)?"
Yes. Related.
Z3 uses STD (sigma) for normalization.
Both measure volatility-adjusted moves.
Purple Bishop = volatility extremes (2x expansion).
Cape = momentum strength (3-bar thrust).
See: Purple Bishop (STD) for volatility stress gauge.
"What if Z3 Key fires but no Reclaim?"
Then engine restarted but structure not reclaimed yet.
Z3 Key (π) = momentum returning after MAE.
But:
- Mike hasn't crossed blocked level yet
- No Reclaim until cross happens
Z3 Key = warning signal ("get ready").
Reclaim = entry signal ("go").

What to look for:
- Mike line color (green/red/blue)
- Green line = Z3 β₯ +1.2 (bullish Cape ON)
- Red line = Z3 β€ -1.2 (bearish Cape ON)
- Blue line = no momentum (Cape OFF)
- At Entry 2/Entry 3: Check Cape before entering
- At Reclaim (π§Ώ): Cape must be ON to unlock
Watch the momentum armor.
π― The Bottom Line
The Cape is momentum armor.
Z3 β₯ Β±1.2 = engine ON.
Visual signal:
- Green Mike line = bullish momentum
- Red Mike line = bearish momentum
- Blue Mike line = no momentum
Where it matters:
Entry 2: Cape ON = safer assault on Queen's castle.
Entry 3: Cape ON (+ Knights) = real IB break.
Reclaim: Cape ON = unlock blocked Entry 1.
Z3 measures 3-bar momentum in sigma-space:
Not distance. Thrust.
Normalized by volatility (robust sigma).
Cross-ticker comparable.
Without the Cape:
Price tapping. No armor. Weak move.
With the Cape:
Momentum thrust. Armor engaged. Real move.
That's the difference.
